Hamza Tamer, a member of the boxing team at the Egyptian Tersana Club, lost his life after drowning in the club’s swimming pool during a recovery session.

The young player was immediately transferred to Imbaba General Hospital, where all attempts to save him failed, and he passed away due to cardiac arrest resulting from “drowning asphyxia”, according to the health inspector’s report.

The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports moved quickly to deal with the incident, as the official spokesman for the ministry, Mohamed El-Shazly, stated that the club’s swimming pool was closed and those responsible for the incident were referred to the official investigation authorities.

El-Shazly explained that Minister Dr. Ashraf Sobhi expressed his condolences to the player’s family and directed that full support be provided to them, in addition to following up on the investigations and necessary legal procedures with the Youth and Sports Directorate in Giza.

As part of the investigations, a team from the Agouza Prosecution Office in Giza Governorate moved to the Tersana Club headquarters to inspect the scene of the incident.

According to the testimonies of the club’s employees, the boxing team was using the swimming pool after official working hours, which led to the drowning of the player, who was not a good swimmer, in the absence of rescue teams.
