Egyptian authorities announced that they have arrested 12 Sudanese nationals while trying to cross the border illegally via a truck.
The incident occurred when Egyptian security forces raided a truck carrying migrants near the city of Aswan, where they were arrested and taken to the Sudanese city of Wadi Halfa. before they were released after two days of detention.
This incident comes in the context of the increasing number of Sudanese who have sought refuge in Egypt since the beginning of wars and conflicts in their country in mid-April 2023, where they are exposed to pressure and difficult humanitarian conditions, in light of the failure of the international community to provide the necessary assistance to them.
Many Sudanese prefer to enter Egypt illegally, given the restrictions imposed by the Egyptian government on their legal entry.
Some reports estimate the costs Sudanese pay intermediaries to enter Egypt illegally at around 500,000 Egyptian pounds (about US$350).
