Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati held a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, during which they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and current regional developments.

During the call, Lavrov congratulated Abdel Aati on assuming the position of Foreign Minister in the new Egyptian government, expressing his aspiration to enhance cooperation between Cairo and Moscow in a way that serves the interests of both countries.

The call also discussed the situation in the Middle East, especially with regard to the current escalation in the Gaza Strip.

The two parties stressed the need to work towards an immediate ceasefire and avoid aggravating the situation in the region, and the two ministers affirmed Cairo and Moscow’s commitment to continuing coordination on regional and international issues of common interest.

This contact comes amid increasing tensions in the region, following the assassination of prominent figures from “Hezbollah” and “Hamas”, which raises fears of a major escalation that could lead to a regional war, as Iran, “Hamas” and “Hezbollah” have pledged to respond.
