The Nile River witnessed a tragic incident when a tourist yacht sank between the Qasr El Nil and Old Cairo departments, with 14 Egyptian and Saudi passengers on board.
The Old Cairo Police Department received a notification from the security services at Qasr El Aini Hospital about the arrival of injured and deceased people as a result of the sinking of a yacht in the Great Branch of the Nile River, between the Fountain area and the Sofitel Hotel, in the Qasr El Nil Department.
The accident resulted in 4 Saudis and 5 Egyptians suffering from suffocation, and they were transferred to Qasr El Aini Hospital where their health condition improved, and two Egyptians died, and the search is still ongoing for three missing people in the Nile waters.
Initial investigations showed that the yacht had an expired license and was small in size, and could only carry 4 people, while it was carrying 14 passengers. It also turned out that the yacht driver did not have any licenses to work in that area.
Investigations revealed that the imbalance of the small yacht led to its bow falling into the Nile River, which caused it to fill with water and sink.
