The Cairo Criminal Court issued a decision to place a man accused of kidnapping, raping, and killing a Sudanese baby Janet Gomaa Boutros, who did not exceed ten months, in a psychiatric hospital.

The verdict was issued on Thursday by the court held in the Fifth Settlement, in preparation for his trial session scheduled for the first of June, with his detention continuing until then.

The case began after the child was reported kidnapped while playing with her sister in front of their home in Nasr City, and according to the investigations, the defendant took the child to a nearby park where he committed his crime.

The charges were confirmed on the basis of the defendant’s confessions and the forensic medical report that described the atrocities suffered by the victim.

During the interrogations, the defendant recounted how the elevator broke down, and when he got out, he heard the child’s voice and followed him until he found her crawling in the corridor.

According to the defendant’s confessions, he carried her and ran her to a garden behind the building, where he assaulted her and then strangled her to death to silence her cries.

His actions continued even after her death, claiming he continued to assault her body for two hours before fleeing the scene when he saw people approaching.

The incident sparked outrage in Egypt and found a great echo on social media, where baby Janet topped the trend, expressing their deep sympathy and demands for justice for the innocent child.
