The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has declared its strong opposition to any foreign interference in the affairs of the Republic of Mali, according to a “Reuters” report.
In a statement on the “X” platform, the group affirmed its denunciation and condemnation of any foreign interference in the region that threatens peace and security in West Africa, and any attempts to drag the region into the current geopolitical confrontation.
“ECOWAS” condemned the attack launched by armed groups on a convoy of the Malian armed forces near Tinzaouitene, northeastern Mali, near the border with Algeria.
The official representative of the Ukrainian intelligence service, Andrey Yusov, and the Ukrainian ambassador to Senegal, Yuriy Pivovarov, hinted at Kiev’s involvement in the attack on the Malian army and the Russian “Wagner” special forces in northern Mali.
The military advisor to the French armed forces, Michel Goya, indicated in a press statement that Paris should have helped Ukraine fight Russia in Africa, which further complicates the geopolitical situation in the region.
These events coincide with escalating tensions in West Africa, as foreign powers seek to intervene in regional conflicts, complicating peace and security efforts in the region.
