The National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt said that the stations of the National Seismic Network recorded an earthquake with a magnitude higher than 4.5 on the Richter scale east of Luxor, in the south of the country.
The institute’s statement said that the earthquake stations recorded an earthquake 46 kilometers southeast of Luxor, and the statement confirmed that there was no loss of life and property.
In this context, Egyptian television quoted Gad al-Qadi, head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research, as saying that a number of citizens felt the tremor.
He pointed out that the earthquake is the first recorded by monitoring stations in Egypt in 2024.
It is noteworthy that the judge had previously stated that Egypt witnesses daily earthquakes, and they are monitored and recorded, but they are imperceptible and not felt by citizens.
According to experts, Egypt is located outside the belts and activities of earthquakes in general, but it is exposed from time to time to some weak or moderate earthquakes, especially those whose center is located in the eastern Mediterranean region, and the northern Red Sea.
