The courtroom of the Criminal Appeal Court in Dakahlia, north of Egypt, witnessed an unexpected moment when a person suddenly confessed that he was the real perpetrator in a murder case in which another person was being tried for life imprisonment.
During the appeal session for the accused Mohamed A.A.A., a pharmacist, who was convicted of running over and killing Mr. M.A.A., a person named Hossam, 31 years old, requested to speak to the judge, where he revealed his desire to confess to committing the crime, driven by his conscience and his fear of facing God with the guilt of killing a person and implicating an innocent person.
Hossam, who was following the session, explained that he was the real driver of the car at the time of the accident, and fled after the death occurred, and indicated that the accused pharmacist was only involved as the owner of the car used in the accident.
Based on these confessions, the court decided to arrest Hossam and reserve the case for issuing a verdict next Monday, amid anticipation of the acquittal of the pharmacist who was facing a life sentence.
