A number of Sudanese died due to sunstroke and dehydration while trying to cross illegally from Sudan to Egypt, escaping the ongoing armed conflict in their country.
The dangerous journey undertaken by the Sudanese has been the subject of increasing warnings from the authorities and the people alike, during which they are exploited by smugglers who cram them into trucks that are not suitable for transporting people.
The painful scene was strongly reflected on social media platforms, where many expressed their anger and sadness at what was happening.
A report by the Sudanese News Agency stated that the harsh weather conditions in the Aswan region, where the temperature recently reached 49.6 degrees, increased the suffering of migrants.
It was reported that the Sudanese Consul in Aswan, Abdul Qader Abdullah, offered his condolences to the families of the victims, noting that many bodies had arrived at local hospitals.
Dr. Nader Mahrous confirmed on Facebook that more than 20 people died due to extreme heat during the past two days alone.
The local press in Egypt and Sudan reported that 24 people died during the past week, while there are still other cases that have not yet reached hospitals.
According to the latest updates in 2024, Egypt hosts approximately 324,000 Sudanese refugees, and this number represents a significant increase following the outbreak of armed conflict in Sudan, making the Sudanese the largest group of refugees in Egypt at this time.
