The Sudan Liberation Forces (SLA) announced on Saturday the dismissal of Taher Hajar from the presidency of the movement on charges of high treason, for supporting the Rapid Support Forces in their struggle against the Sudanese army.
The statement, posted on the group’s Facebook page, accused Tahar Hajar of treason for supporting “rebel” groups, engaging in financial corruption and mismanagement.
The statement included an accusation that Hajar acted individually in many critical situations, including making alliances and determining political positions without respecting the movement’s constitution, and the movement’s leadership announced the formation of a special committee to hold him accountable.
Last April, Hajar announced the withdrawal of the Sudan Liberation Forces Gathering from the Joint Force of Armed Struggle Movements in Darfur, justifying his decision that some armed movements within the force abandoned neutrality and announced their alignment with the Sudanese army.
Born in 1974, Taher is a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, which was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army, General Abdel Fattah Abdel Rahman Al-Burhan, in 2021.
Taher Hajar joined the resistance in Darfur in early 2004 and became the head of the Sudan Liberation Movement for Justice in 2012, leading attempts to unite the forces of armed struggle under one umbrella and was elected president of the Sudan Liberation Forces Gathering established in April 2023.
