The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali, Abdallah Diop, held a discussion session with Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, during her visit to Mali as part of her African tour.
The meeting, which was held the day before yesterday, Friday, witnessed discussions on enhancing peace and security at the national and regional levels.
The statement issued by the Financial Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the session addressed a number of issues of common interest, including the establishment of a confederation of Sahel countries and sustainable development plans based on industrialization and improving value chains for raw resources.
Diop expressed his regret at the lack of solidarity, especially African solidarity, towards the security challenges in the Sahel region, pointing to the urgent need to strengthen confidence among regional actors.
He also appealed to the United Nations to recognize the progress achieved in the political and security fields, stressing Mali’s commitment to constructive dialogue and sincere cooperation.
In the same context, Diop reaffirmed the commitment of the transitional authorities to continue and enhance cooperation with United Nations programs to support sustainable development and improve the living conditions of the Malian people.
Amina Mohammed began her African tour by visiting Senegal and is scheduled to visit several other African countries, including Ethiopia and Burkina Faso. Through this tour, she aims to discuss ways to accelerate the implementation of sustainable development goals in the region.
