More than 17,000 Sudanese families in the “Aloum” refugee camp in Chad are suffering from tragic humanitarian conditions, as their suffering is exacerbated by a severe shortage of water, food, medicine, and shelter, in light of the approaching winter.
Humanitarian activists reported that the camp is witnessing a serious outbreak of epidemic and infectious diseases, which led to the death of four refugees and the infection of about 20 others with hepatitis, and cases of miscarriage have been recorded among pregnant women due to the lack of health care.
The Sudanese refugees who fled West Darfur State due to the ongoing violence found themselves in a desperate situation after Chad was their first destination due to its geographical proximity.
These refugees face great difficulties in obtaining the necessary treatment in light of the lack of basic services and essential medicines in the health centers in the camp.
In a related context, the “Mashhad” organization issued a statement warning of the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the camps in eastern Chad to dangerous levels, calling on international and regional organizations to intervene urgently to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance and save the lives of refugees before the situation worsens further.
