The US Navy announced the downing of 21 missiles and drones launched by the Houthis on Tuesday evening towards international cargo routes in the southern Red Sea, and the US Central Command revealed that 18 drones were shot down by destroyers and an aircraft carrier, in an attack that did not result in injuries or damage.
U.S. officials said that according to initial assessments, there was no damage to ships in the Red Sea as a result of these attacks, nor were there any casualties as a result of the missile and drone launches.
According to a statement by the US Middle East Military Command (CENTCOM), “the Iran-backed Houthis launched a complex attack with Iranian-designed one-way attack drones, anti-ship cruise missiles, and an anti-ship ballistic missile from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen towards the southern Red Sea,” according to AFP.
U.S. officials said the targets were shot down with the help of several destroyers and an aircraft carrier operating in the area.
This is the 26th attack by the Houthis since November 19, and one of the largest attacks in the Red Sea in recent months.
