Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen has declared that normalization with Saudi Arabia is possible “even if Israel refuses to move towards a Palestinian state,” despite Riyadh’s denials.

Cohen said in an interview with The Times of Israel that “security concerns related to the Iranian axis will outweigh Riyadh’s demands that the two-state solution be part of the normalization deal.” “Peace with Saudi Arabia is quite possible,” he stressed, adding that “the October 7 war highlighted the fact that Saudi Arabia needs this peace as much as Israel does, if not more.”

“You will receive the tools primarily from the United States, to deal with the Iranian threat and terrorism.” Referring to the 2019 attack on two major oil facilities in the kingdom, he asked: “Who attacked Saudi Arabia 4 years ago? Iran and the Houthis.”

“This war underscores how important the regional alliance and regional stability are, and that the threat to Israel and moderate Muslim countries is the Shiite axis,” Cohen said, noting that “the first and main thing the Saudis want is their security, to deal with the threat that hovers over them.”

“A Palestinian state is something I don’t see happening. We have seen that Israel has withdrawn from Gaza, and Gaza has turned into a terrorist state ruled by the terrorist group Hamas with funding from Iran.”

Earlier this week, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan reiterated his country’s assertion that normalization with Israel “will not take place without a long-term solution to the Palestinian issue.”
