The United States announced that it had deported a large number of illegal Mauritanian immigrants who entered the United States through the separation barrier with Mexico.
The US embassy in Nouakchott said in a post on its Facebook page that US authorities “returned a large number of Mauritanian citizens to Mauritania on a new flight” without specifying their number.
She explained that the deportees lack a legal permit to reside and work in the United States.
Washington does not provide financial compensation to deportees or the Mauritanian government, but it does ensure that they are treated humanely by providing food, temporary accommodation, medical examination, and air transportation to their home countries at the expense of U.S. taxpayers.
