Democratic and Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives have called on the administration of President Joe Biden to use its diplomatic power to pressure the conflicting parties in Sudan to stop the war and transfer power to the Sudanese people.
Leaders from both parties stated in a joint statement that the ongoing war in Sudan has created a dire humanitarian situation, forcing over seven million people to flee, including three million children. There are also reports of widespread rape, sexual violence, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing.
The statement emphasized that the world should know that the U.S. Congress is united in anger and condemnation for the actions of both the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces, as well as anyone supporting them.
