Portuguese press reports indicate that star Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Saudi Al-Nasr club, may consider not pursuing his international career with the Portugal national team.

This comes after the Portuguese national team was eliminated from the Euro 2024 tournament by France on penalties in the quarter-finals, where Ronaldo did not score any goals and was content with making one goal.

According to CNN Portugal, citing Portuguese analyst Rui Santos, Ronaldo is considering international retirement, which means that he may not participate in the Portuguese national team’s upcoming matches in the European Nations League during the next two months.

Santos explained that Ronaldo does not feel comfortable with the way he is treated in the national team, which prompts him to think about ending his international career, which lasted for more than 20 years.

Rokan Ronaldo had previously hinted at his intention to continue with the Portuguese national team beyond Euro 2024, as he looks forward to participating in the 2026 World Cup, but the widespread criticism he was subjected to during the current tournament may push him to reconsider his decision.

Analysts and former stars criticized Ronaldo’s performance in the tournament and criticized his insistence on taking all free kicks and penalty kicks.
