Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal in the context of current events in the areas supporting the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces, although he has not been officially given such a title yet.
Such a phenomenon comes in line with the current political and military developments taking place in Sudan, as it appears that the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces seeks to enhance his image and role at this sensitive stage in the country’s history.
Field Marshal’s rank is widely admired in several Arab countries, including Egypt, Sudan, and Libya, where this title is considered a symbol of supreme military leadership. In the history of Sudan, only three officers obtained the rank of Field Marshal, and all of them were presidents of the republic, including former President Omar al-Bashir, who was ousted in 2019.
