The investigative governor of the Office No. 12 of the Anti-Terrorism Judicial Pole in Tunisia charged journalist Ziad El Heni with three “terrorist” charges, despite his expectation that he would be declared innocent of the charges against him.
Al-Heni had received a summons to appear before the investigating judge to inform him of the decision to close the investigation into the case of the audio recording attributed to Ennahda leader Munther al-Ounissi.
Al-Hani pointed out, in a post on his Facebook account, on Monday, March 11, that contrary to his expectations of declaring his innocence from what was attributed to him, the judge charged him with three terrorist charges.
Al-Hani said: “I have only now left the Anti-Terrorism Judicial Pole, where I was informed of the decision to conclude the investigation in the case of Dr. Munther Al-Ounisi, in which I was summoned as a witness before I was transferred with the ability of Qadir to accused.”
He continued: “Contrary to what I expected, based on what the law imposes in spirit, letter and common sense, that I will be acquitted and stop the shameful prosecution against me, the investigating judge charged me with three terrorism charges.”
Ziad al-Hani announced that the charges against him would not be appealed, stressing that “I will not give them the opportunity to cover their obscenity with a legal and judicial nature.”
It is noteworthy that the Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance in Tunis sentenced on January 11 to six months in prison with the postponement of the implementation of corporal punishment against journalist Ziad El Heni, after charging him with offending others via the Internet.
