Chadian Prime Minister Succès Masra announced his resignation nearly two weeks after his defeat in the presidential election to the head of the ruling military junta, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

Chad’s presidential election took place on Monday (May 6th).

Masra posted his resignation on Facebook, including a handwritten copy, and confirmed that he submitted his resignation and the resignation of the transitional government, which became invalid after the end of the presidential elections.

Déby Itno was appointed interim president in 2021 by a council of 15 generals, after his father, Idriss Deby Itno, was killed on the front line during a battle with rebels after 30 years of rule.

Déby was officially declared elected president of Chad after the presidential election, with 61% of the vote.

The election results provoked mixed reactions, with Masra and his party asserting that the voting process was marred by irregularities and described as illegitimate.
