Chadian Foreign Minister Mohamed Saleh al-Nazif denied accusations that his country supported the Rapid Support Forces in the Sudanese war.
Al-Nazif said in statements to Al Jazeera Mubasher: “We challenge any Sudanese official who proves our involvement in the fighting between the army and the Rapid Support.”
“We sought to heal the rift between the army and the RSF before the outbreak of the war, and we deal with the two sides of the fighting in Sudan impartially and support any peaceful solution to stop the war,” he said.
Al-Nazif explained that his country’s relationship with Sudan is based on the recognition of Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan as head of the Sovereignty Council, and Rapid Support Commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti) as his deputy.
Al-Nazif stressed his country’s readiness to receive Burhan and Hemedti in order to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis, and Chad’s support for the Jeddah talks, noting that he met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in order to contain the fighting in Sudan.
“Chad is a sovereign state and receives no funding from any party to fuel the war in Sudan,” he concluded.
The Sudanese army has accused neighboring and regional countries of providing support to the Rapid Support Forces during the fighting that has been ongoing between them since April last year.
