The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Central African Republic, Sylvie Baibou Timon, expressed her country’s desire to join BRICS in the future, noting the necessity of meeting the required standards in the beginning.
Timon said in an interview with Sputnik: “It is important that the Central African Republic belongs to one of these large groups because it serves as support.”
She continued: “So of course Central Africa wants to belong to BRICS, but we have to be realistic and live up to the required standards.”
The Foreign Minister noted that Bangui does not meet the criteria to join BRICS today, saying: “But we will work in this direction and Central Africa has all the potential to be among the economically strong countries,” adding: “New countries have joined BRICS during the summit.”
Timon pointed out that “BRICS is on top of the world today, given that it is the large groups that survive in difficult situations in the world.”
The Russian ambassador in the Central African Republic, Alexander Pekantov, told Sputnik last July that the Republic is ready to cooperate with the BRICS group, stressing at the same time that there is no talk so far about joining.
Last June, the representative of West and Central Africa of the “BRICS” group, Ahwa Don Melo, announced to “Sputnik” that the group had chosen 7 projects in various fields in Central Africa to finance, pointing out that funding is already available, so that the implementation of the selected projects will begin any time.
