The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Central African Republic, Sylvie Baibou Temon, condemned the deployment of its forces by the United States of America on the territory of the Central African Republic, after Washington submitted a notification to the Security Council, without informing Bangui, stressing the need for the partnership between the two countries to be carried out in full transparency.

In an interview with Sputnik, Timon said: “The United States of America has submitted a notification within the Security Council to be able to deploy its forces with weapons and radio communications on the territory of Central Africa to carry out operations within the framework of its activities. I called the embassy and denounced it because the Central African Republic was not informed about it.”

“We are open to partnering with any country that wants to help us, but we ask that this be done with full transparency.”

Timon denounced the double standards of the UN Security Council, where “it is the state that makes requests according to its needs and not the other countries that decide what to send. The Central African Republic is a sovereign state, and when you want to work on our soil you have to accept to do business with us.”

“We have a number of partnerships and, contrary to what some say, they are completely transparent: when the two defense ministers signed a security cooperation agreement between the Central African Republic and Russia, it was done in front of the press, and everyone was notified. These things must be adhered to.”

Asked whether Bangui was under pressure from the West to sever ties with Moscow, Timon said: “Yes, we are under pressure, but the Central African Republic is a sovereign country, free to choose its friends.”

“We have reviewed the history of the Central African crisis, and we cannot be held accountable for our choices. Today every country bears part of the responsibility in this crisis, because we asked for help from different countries, and they did not respond when we needed them.”
