Civil protection teams affiliated with the Cairo Security Directorate continued their search for missing persons under the rubble of a collapsed building in the Sahel area, after finding the bodies of four people.
As a precautionary measure, the Cairo Civil Protection Forces evacuated three neighboring buildings from residents, fearing they might collapse.
The five-story building collapsed suddenly after security services received a report from local residents.
Initial investigations indicated that the cause of the collapse was that one of the residents on the first floor was carrying out unlicensed expansion work, which included demolishing one of the load-bearing walls, which led to the disaster.
Among the victims whose bodies were recovered from under the rubble were: Nada Mahmoud Mohamed (15 years old), Hala Mohamed Ali Badir (56 years old), and Yasser Mohamed Abdel Wahab (38 years old), while the identity of the fourth victim has not yet been determined.
In a related context, the Governor of Cairo directed the provision of urgent health care to the injured and the provision of necessary aid to those affected.
An engineering committee was formed to assess the safety of neighboring properties and continue to remove rubble from the accident site. The owner of the apartment involved in the illegal expansion work was arrested, and the Public Prosecution opened extensive investigations to uncover the circumstances of the accident.
