The General Investigation Forces of the Benghazi Security Directorate arrested an Egyptian citizen who was holding a group of migrant workers in an abandoned garage in the Al-Bilad area in central Benghazi.
This came on the instructions of the Director of Public Security, Major General Ahmed Al-Shamekh, who stressed the need to control the public street and secure the community.
Information reached the General Investigation Department that an Egyptian guard abandoned garages in the central area of the country.
Upon receipt of the report, the investigation teams moved to the site, where they found a house and garages, and found eight Bangladeshi nationals detained there.
During interrogation of the detainees, it was found that they had been held for five months by three people, including a woman, her son and an Egyptian, and the Egyptian defendant admitted that he was paid for guarding the detained workers.
The accused and the detainees have been referred to the Public Prosecution, while the search for the rest of the parties involved in the case continues.
It is noteworthy that the number of foreign workers in Libya is 2.1 million workers until the end of 2022, most of whom work in informal sectors, one million of them Egyptians, according to local media quoting an official survey.
