German club Bayer Leverkusen achieved a new historic achievement by drawing 2-2 with Roma in the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals, to book their place in the final and continue the “undefeated” streak.

Through their draw with Roma, Bayer Leverkusen became the first team in the history of Europe’s five major leagues to achieve 49 games without defeat in all competitions, surpassing the previous record of the Portuguese club Benfica (48 games), which stood 59 years.

Bayer Leverkusen were on course to suffer their first defeat of the season but turned the tables on Roma by scoring twice in the 82nd and 90th minutes, to draw and qualify for the final 4-2 aggregate.

According to the network “Bleacher Report” that Bayer Leverkusen scored 14 goals after the 90th minute this season, while the network “Opta” statistics that this is the third major European final played by Bayer Leverkusen in its history.

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xavi Alonso has also become the thirteenth Spanish coach to play in the final of a Champions League, UEFA Cup, Europa League, Conference League, or Super Cup in the twenty-first century.

The club was founded in 1904 and is owned by Bayer Pharmaceutical and Chemical Industries.

The club is nicknamed “Die Schwarzroten,” meaning “The Black and Reds.” They play their home matches at the Bay Arena, which has a capacity of approximately 30,210 spectators. The club has achieved numerous successes, including winning the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal (German Cup), and the UEFA Cup.
