Barcelona player on loan at Aston Villa, Clement Lenglet, has rejected an offer to move to the Saudi league, preferring to remain competitive in the European leagues.
The Spanish newspaper “Sport” reported that Lenglet considers himself able to continue playing at the highest level in Europe, despite the interest shown by the Saudi league clubs to include him.
Lenglet performed well during his loan spell at Aston Villa, and showed remarkable professionalism and commitment, which made the English club seriously consider renewing the loan, but the club faces a financial challenge regarding the payment of Lenglet’s salary.
Barcelona have sought to market Lenglet to Saudi clubs in a bid to ease the financial burden, but the player’s stance shows his preference to stay in the highly competitive European football environment.
Clement Lenglet is a 28-year-old French player who began his football career with French club Nancy and made his debut for the club in the French second division on 27 September 2013.
During the 2015-2016 season, he made 34 appearances and contributed to Nancy’s second division title, moving in January 2017 to La Liga, signing a contract with Sevilla until 2021.
In 2018, after impressing Sevilla, he moved to FC Barcelona, and then was loaned to Tottenham Hotspur in the 2022-2023 season.
