The head of the “Benedict” monks, the German father Nicodemus Schnabel, was assaulted and spat by settlers, and Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, was insulted with profanity, in the Mount Zion area in Jerusalem.

Israeli police said on Sunday they had arrested the attackers and referred them for investigation, and that they were now “under house arrest.”

For its part, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the incident, considering in a statement that “this racist colonial attack reflects the culture of hatred, hatred and denial of the existence of the other, and reflects the extent of incitement and racist mobilization received by the elements of extremist colonial and settler organizations and associations, whether through religious schools or fatwas of extremist rabbis, and the campaigns and inflammatory positions announced by ministers in the occupation government such as Ben Gvir, Smotrich and others.”

The statement added: “The attack reflects the nature of the attacks against the Palestinian citizen in general and his land and Christian and Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.”

The statement pointed out that “the feeling of political and legal protection of the settler militias encourages them to persist in sowing the seeds of hatred and practicing the most heinous crimes and provocative attacks against Palestinian citizens and followers of other religions, which also reflects the extent of the control of the Israeli far-right culture over many decision-making centers in the occupation state and the spread of its obscurantist anti-peace culture among successive generations of extremists.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz condemned the spitting on the Christian cleric, calling the incident ugly.
