Fierce battles raged in the Sudan capital Khartoum on Monday, as the warring Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) exchanged artillery shelling amid airstrikes in the area of Old Omdurman.

SAF and RSF exchanged artillery shelling in the areas of Old Omdurman. The RSF targeted the SAF-controlled areas of Old Omdurman and the revolutionary neighbourhoods with mortar shells, while the SAF responded with heavy artillery targeting RSF positions in the Southern Omdurman regions of Saliha and El Fatihah.

Clouds of smoke billowed over the capital, enveloping the regions of El Hizam, El Azhari, and El Nahda, which are adjacent to the military bases and the sports city in Khartoum, alongside areas east of the Nile in Bahri (South). The neighbourhoods of Jabra and El Sahafa surrounding the SAF armoured corps base were subjected to intense artillery strikes.

Notably, al-Burhan has also relieved Hamid Al-Tajani Hanoun, the governor of South Darfur, and Saad Adam Babakir, the governor of Central Darfur, and called on members in Juba Peace Agreement to to nominate replacements.
