The Libyan Public Prosecution issued a decision to imprison the former charge d’affaires of the Libyan mission in Burundi, after he caused the spending of public funds in a manner other than those allocated to them.
According to a statement by the Attorney General’s Office on Facebook, a report by the Audit Bureau was investigated on the disbursement of funds allocated for the implementation of a project for Libya in Burundi, and it became clear that “the charge d’affaires deviated from the postulates of his job and abandoned the controls necessary to maintain the amount allocated for the project, which is $ 224,000.”
Investigations showed that the official’s action disrupted the financial structure of the project, opening the door to the illegal disposal of funds.
A decision was taken to detain the accused pending investigation into the incident, according to the statement.
