A Pakistan navy spokesman says an attack by Balochistan Liberation Army (BALA) militants on the Torbat base outside the port of Godar has been repelled.
The spokesman said on Tuesday that militants attacked a Pakistani air-naval base, killing at least one paramilitary soldier, while security forces killed all five attackers.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), the most prominent separatist group in the Balochistan region, claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Godar port area is of great importance, as China invests in the mineral-rich province of Balochistan bordering Afghanistan and Iran and is also developing the Godar port.
The naval base is the fulcrum of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which also includes road and energy projects, and is part of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Monday’s attack on the Torbat base in southwestern Pakistan was the second attack by ethnic Baloch militants on a military facility in a week.
