Former Minister of National Defense, retired Major General Khaled Nezzar, who passed away yesterday, was buried on Saturday at the El-Alia Cemetery.
Died last Friday at the age of 86 following a long illness, the man, considered one of the personalities who left his mark on the Algerian scene during the 1990s, was entitled to a ceremony worthy of his rank. His funeral took place, in fact, in the presence of high civil and military authorities.
In recent decades, the man, who says he took full responsibility while on duty, has spent most of his time responding to his detractors and defending his reputation. “General Khaled Nezzar was deeply attached to his country and the Algerian people. He believed that he had acted as close as possible to his conscience and his duty by assuming the historical role that was his, which earned him the unwavering admiration of many of his compatriots as well as the fierce hatred of those he had fought.
