The Italian Council of Ministers ratified an extradition treaty between Algeria and Italy.

A statement by the Italian Prime Minister said that the approval, which took place at the Chigi Palace, includes the ratification and implementation of the extradition treaty between Italy and Algeria signed on July 22, 2003, in Algiers.

The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, stressed that the treaty obliges signatory countries to exchange extradition, whether pursuing them on a procedural basis or of an executive nature.

The Convention regulates the scope of the crimes falling under the terms of the Treaty, the procedure for extradition requests and how they are carried out, as well as the cases in which extradition may be refused.
