Tensions between Turkey and Israel have intensified following a recent war of words sparked by the ongoing events in Gaza. Turkey warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he could face a fate similar to that of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. This escalation came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made remarks about the possibility of Turkey intervening in the ongoing conflict.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry published a statement on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) comparing Netanyahu to Hitler, stressing that “the genocide committed by Hitler has ended, and so will Netanyahu, who committed genocide,” noting that those who committed genocide will be held accountable as happened with the Nazis.
These statements came in response to a post by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, in which he said that “Erdogan is following in the footsteps of Saddam Hussein and threatening to attack Israel,” calling on him to remember the fate of Saddam Hussein.
Erdogan stressed in recent statements the need to strengthen Turkey’s power to deter Israel from its practices against the Palestinians, pointing to Turkey’s interventions in Nagorno-Karabakh and Libya as models for possible intervention against Israel if necessary.
