The Israeli Minister of Heritage, Amichai Eliyahu, called for “erasing” the month of Ramadan and not to fear the escalation of tension in the West Bank and Jerusalem during the month, as a result of the war on the Gaza Strip.

Eliyahu’s comments during an interview with Army Radio sparked controversy because he belonged to the Jewish Power party, a far-right party led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Eliyahu is known for his extremist statements against Palestinians, including his previous call for a nuclear bomb to be dropped on the Gaza Strip.

Eliyahu’s remarks come amid Israeli security leaks warning of an aggravation of the situation in the West Bank and Jerusalem during the Ramadan, as a result of the war on Gaza and the measures that the Tel Aviv government intends to take at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month.
