A 6-year-old boy with a disability died after his mother threw him into a crocodile-infested river in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka.
Press reports showed that the child breathed his last after being subjected to fierce attacks from crocodiles, last Saturday evening, as his tragedy began after a sharp quarrel between the mother, Savitri Kumar (26 years), and her husband Ravi Kumar (27 years) over their son, who suffers from speech difficulties.
According to Indian police, the husband ordered his wife to get rid of the child, prompting her in a moment of anger to throw her son into a garbage channel flowing into the crocodile river Kali River.
Neighbors who witnessed the incident rushed to alert the police, who rushed to send a team of divers to search for the child in the dark waters.
However, the search continued to no avail until Sunday morning, when the boy’s body was found with signs of crocodile bites.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the child had suffered serious injuries and lost his hand, indicating that he had been attacked by one or more crocodiles.
Police said the couple had another two-year-old son, and their neighbors had confirmed frequent disagreements over raising their eldest son because of his disability.
The couple are currently facing charges of murder, while investigations are ongoing to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident.
