Cairo Governorate witnessed the death of an Egyptian young man from suffocation inside his car as a result of running the air conditioner for more than an hour, following a power outage.
This comes just two days after a similar incident that claimed the life of an Egyptian girl in Menoufia Governorate, after she inhaled carbon monoxide gas inside her car.
The accident occurred in the Manshiyet Nasser neighborhood in Cairo yesterday, Saturday, where the young man, “Mohamed,” suffocated inside his car after he took refuge in it to escape the extreme heat that resulted from the power outage.
The young man’s uncle said in a statement to the “Cairo 24” website that Muhammad was unable to bear the high heat, so he went to his car, turned on the air conditioner, and slept for more than an hour, which led to him suffocating.
The investigating authorities announced their permission to bury the 27-year-old young man, “Muhammad,” after it was proven that he died as a result of suffocation inside the car.
Earlier, a high school girl died in the same way in Menoufia Governorate, when she took refuge in her car to study to escape the extreme heat due to a power outage, but she suffocated inside the car as a result of inhaling carbon monoxide gas resulting from turning on the air conditioner.
In a related context, a consultant in chest diseases, Dr. Mahmoud Mohsen, explained in a phone call to MBC Egypt channel that running the car’s air conditioner while it is parked leads to dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide entering the car in large quantities.
