An Egyptian employee at a company found herself the subject of a disciplinary penalty, which included deducting 3,500 pounds from her salary, after she published a sarcastic video showing her manager’s plump belly.
The employee named Maryam Helmy, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Alexandria University, published the discount letter on her personal Facebook page, commenting that the discount came for unexpected reasons far from delay or negligence in work.
The letter issued by the company stated that such actions violate the policies of the media department in which Helmy works, where all employees are expected to present the best image of all employees without exception.
The company explained that this was Helmi’s first mistake since joining the team, and expressed its appreciation for her efforts, stressing the need to avoid such mistakes in the future to enhance the company’s image and reputation.
The followers interacted greatly with the story, and many of them shared the video and the letter, expressing their astonishment at the strangeness of the reason behind the discount, and criticizing the action taken by the company, while others defended the necessity of maintaining professional ethics and respecting privacy in the work environment.
