Egyptian content presenter, Sandra Fares, surprised her followers by announcing her intention to sue Facebook, after the platform placed a sign announcing her death on her accounts without careful verification.
Fares provides content about fashion and travel and is followed by thousands on various social media platforms.
Fares said in a video she posted on Instagram that she was surprised that a “deceased” badge appeared on her Facebook accounts while she was on a plane and traveling outside the country.
She explained that she did not know who had submitted a document to Facebook alleging her death, stressing that she was not interested in knowing the perpetrator, and said: “I have no idea who did this, or who presented forged papers.”
She indicated that her family was terrified after this accident, especially since she was on the plane for a full 4 hours, and they were not able to contact her. Fares confirmed that her account was verified with a blue mark, and the Facebook administration should have verified her death before taking this step.
Fares held Facebook responsible for this major mistake and the psychological damage she suffered, and promised her followers to publish a video soon that includes details of her suing the platform, as the “death” badge is still there.
Fares commented in a funny way on another of her accounts, saying: “I am still alive and thriving, Facebook,” which sparked widespread interaction among her followers.
