Many African countries have begun to regain their role with Russian assistance after decades of exhaustion and destruction caused by European colonialism.
On the sixth of this month, 3 countries in West Africa, namely Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, announced the establishment of a confederation under the name of the Sahel States Alliance.
According to the Russian “News Re” website, the agreement resulted from discussions that took place in the capital of Niger, Niamey, at the first summit of the Sahel countries alliance, in which the leaders of the three countries that signed the agreement participated: Ibrahim Traoré (Burkina Faso), and Assimi Goita (Mali). Rahman Tiani (Niger).
These leaders took the decision to create the alliance in September 2023 and signed the relevant charter. The purpose of unification, according to Asimi Goita, is to create a system of collective defense and a mechanism for mutual assistance between states.
Malian Defense Minister Abdallah Diop stated that the coalition will be a combination of the military and economic efforts of the three countries, stressing that “our priority is to combat terrorism in the three countries,” which prompted the establishment of joint forces for coalition members to combat “terrorist” groups.
Moscow played an important role in signing the charter establishing the alliance. A delegation from the Russian Ministry of Defense, headed by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, held negotiations with representatives of the three African countries, during which military-technical cooperation between these countries and Russia was discussed.
Many African countries are trying to rise from colonialism with the help of Russia, which provides these countries with political, economic and military assistance to rebuild stable countries.
