A federal court in the US state of Virginia has ruled that it has no jurisdiction over cases against Libyan National Army commander Lieutenant General Khalifa Haftar.

The case included more than 278 communications and hearing sessions between the legal team of the Libyan-American Alliance and a group of lawyers for Haftar, and it included accusations of incidents that occurred in Benghazi and Tripoli during the past decade.

Haftar was subjected to lengthy video interrogation sessions that began in November 2022, despite assurances by the defense team that he could not be interrogated due to his “presidential duties” and concerns about disclosing military secrets.

Essam Omeish, head of the Libyan-American coalition, stated that Judge Leona Brinkma declared that the cases do not fall strictly within the court’s jurisdiction.

Omeish suggested that the judge may have been reluctant to deal with complex and politically sensitive cases due to their sensitivity and complexity.
