Chinese mediation succeeded in bringing together the “Fatah” and “Hamas” movements, along with 14 other Palestinian factions, to reach an agreement on forming an interim national reconciliation government to administer Gaza after the war.

This announcement came from the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, during the signing of the “Beijing Declaration” in the Chinese capital.

Wang Yi confirmed that the agreement includes the formation of an interim government to administer Gaza after the war, after talks held by the Palestinian factions in Beijing between July 21 and 23, and the “Beijing Declaration” was signed in the presence of the leaders of the two movements and the Chinese Foreign Minister.

Musa Abu Marzouk, a leader in the “Hamas” movement, announced that the movement had signed a “national unity” agreement with the “Fatah” movement and other Palestinian factions during the meeting in China.

Abu Marzouk stressed the movement’s adherence to national unity and the necessity of continuing this path to achieve comprehensive reconciliation.

It is noteworthy that this agreement comes after a series of failed initiatives for reconciliation between the Palestinian factions. Last April, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed the desire of the two movements to achieve reconciliation through dialogue, and these talks came as a result of this common desire.

Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, the relationship between “Fatah” and “Hamas” has witnessed tensions and exchange of accusations. However, the current Chinese mediation is an important step towards achieving Palestinian unity, as it succeeded in achieving tangible progress by signing the agreement in Beijing.

Despite previous attempts to achieve reconciliation between “Fatah” and “Hamas” under the auspices of Arab countries such as Egypt and Qatar, none of these initiatives were able to eliminate all differences between the two sides. However, Chinese mediation, through the “Beijing Declaration,” represents a positive development that may pave the way. To achieve true Palestinian unity and joint management of the Gaza Strip after the war.
