The “Francis Scott Key Bridge” in Baltimore, Maryland, collapsed after a ship collided with it early Tuesday morning.
According to news reports, a large ship collided with the bridge carrying the north-south lanes of Highway 695, setting it on fire before sinking and causing a number of vehicles to fall into the Batapsco River.
Local media reported that the container ship sank after the incident, and there are likely deaths.
The Maryland State Transportation Authority announced that all lanes in both directions were closed due to the incident on the bridge and traffic was diverted.
Baltimore Mayor Brendon Scott said on the X website: “Emergency teams have arrived at the scene and all efforts are being made at the scene.”
