Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic is facing the decision to exclude one of the most prominent players who shone in the elite camp in March.

The fate of the New York City striker, who rose to prominence during friendlies against Bolivia and South Africa, became after the player’s performance in the American league, where he was unable to score or assist goals despite participating in 11 games, mostly as a key player in the spearhead position.

The 23-year-old is in danger of losing his place to a veteran striker in the coming period.

Petkovic is considering giving Islam Slimani, the team’s all-time top scorer, a chance to perform well for Belgian club Michelin in recent weeks, prompting the coach to issue an initial invitation to him pending a final decision.

Ali Mohamed Benyettou, Al Wakrah’s top scorer, also has the chance to join the national team after years of waiting, although at the end of his career he represented Soleimani.

Moncef entered the football world through ES Sétif, where he was one of the team’s originators, and in 2020 he appeared in the Al Wefaq U-21 team, and then in February 2021, he participated with the first football team of the Algerian team.

During his career with ES Sétif, he played 51 games, scored 10 goals and provided 3 assists, and after just one year in the first team, he moved to Croatian club Istra on a free transfer.

In July 2023, he joined the American club New York City for two million euros, and his contract expires in 2026, with the option to extend for an additional year, that is, until 2027.
