Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received on Tuesday the President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Brahim Ghali, in a meeting that took place at El Mouradia Palace in Algiers.
During the meeting, they exchanged views and consultations on the situation in the Western Sahara region, as part of the UN Security Council’s preparations for closed consultations on the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
These consultations come in the context of the renewal of the mandate of MINURSO under the UN Security Council resolution for an additional year, as the international community hopes that these efforts will contribute to advancing the peace process and reaching a comprehensive political settlement of the conflict.
The resolution endorsed by the UN Security Council to invite informal consultations with Morocco and the Polisario Front, as well as to call for consultations with members of the Group of Friends of Western Sahara in New York.
In this context, the UN Security Council called on all parties concerned to resume negotiations with a view to reaching a just and lasting political solution to the conflict that respects the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
