With job opportunities declining in television and cinema, many Algerian artists have turned to social media platforms, especially “TikTok”, to generate additional income and attract the attention of producers.
Among these artists is Mohamed Tabaq, known as “Haroudi”, who entered the world of TikTok after years of marginalization, noting that television production in Algeria has become limited to the month of Ramadan only.
Haroudi expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of basic rights for artists, such as insurance and retirement benefits, stressing that acting should be a message before it is a business
Actor Ismail El-Aissaoui, known as “Zabata”, turned to “TikTok”, explaining that producers now rely on the number of views on social platforms to distribute roles.
New artists such as Mohamed Ragis and rapper Ishaq Saadeddine “Phobia” have also entered this world, considering “TikTok” a means of communicating with the public and generating additional income.
Despite the criticism these artists have faced for using the platform, some believe that “TikTok” provides an opportunity to showcase talent and connect with audiences, and that it does not pose a threat to traditional arts.
