Algeria’s national handball team decided to withdraw from its match against Morocco in the sixth edition of the Arab Youth Handball Championship on Tuesday.
The Algerian national team announced its objection to the Moroccan team’s shirts, which bear the entire map of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Television footage carried by Morocco’s Channel One showed Moroccan handball players waiting for their Algerian opponents on the pitch for 15 minutes, according to the competition’s rules.
After the Algerian team was absent, the match referee declared the match over, giving the Moroccan team the victory.
The withdrawal comes just three days after another match between Morocco’s Nahda Berkane and USM Alger in Algiers was cancelled.
The cancellation of the match came due to the refusal of the Algerian authorities to allow the Moroccan team to wear its traditional shirt, which bears the entire map of Morocco.
