The incident of the famous Algerian influencer, Zaki Catalonia, illegally leaving the country for Spain, sparked a huge uproar on social media, and his passport was torn up.
The influencer, known for his awareness videos, tried to settle in Spain after his passport was torn up when the Spanish police noticed him
On his Tik Tok account, “Zaki Catalonia” has more than 700,000 subscribers. He obtained a visa to travel to Cuba with a stop in Spain, and when he was discovered by the Spanish authorities, he tore up his Algerian passport and threw it in the toilet so that his identity would not be identified. During his interrogation, he stated that he was threatened with death in his country, Algeria.
The incident sparked mixed reactions, as some considered that “Zaki Catalunya” deviated from its educational content, as one of them said: “They do what they do not say.” This influencer roamed the neighborhoods of the capital during Ramadan, participating with imams in preaching, then he left illegally and tore up the passport, and all those who thought he had respectable content might follow his example,” while another added: “His behavior is stupid.” The passport trick was used in the past, but now all countries have realized it.”
On the other hand, others sympathized with the influencer, as one of them said: “I hope he is released, as transferring him to the homeland will make him psychologically devastated, in addition to depriving him of entering Europe for five years.”
Zaki was previously known for his videos about drugs, and his confession that he was addicted for a long time, but he announced his repentance months ago and participated in awareness sessions and lessons with Sheikhs Al-Hadi Flisi and Al-Tahar Dharwi, who cited him as an example of repentance.
It should be noted that many Algerians and young people from the Maghreb move to Europe on legal visas, but they remain there despite the expiration of the visa. Some of them are arrested at airports, where the security authorities investigate them by interrogating them and searching their belongings. Some resort to these tricks to avoid illegal migration by sea.
