Algeria is ahead of Morocco in cereal production, ranking second on the African continent after Egypt.
The French magazine “Jeune Afrique” published a report on Thursday, based on statistics from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and showed that Algeria’s production of wheat amounted to nearly seven million tons, in contrast, Morocco produced more than four million tons of wheat.
According to the African Development Bank, this development in production came after large investments in the agricultural sector, and the adoption of modernization of agriculture through advanced technologies, which contributed to a significant increase in production.
It is noteworthy that this increase comes under volatile global conditions, especially after global supply chains were affected by the Russian operation in Ukraine, which makes food independence vital to the security of countries.
Increasing agricultural production goes beyond securing their food needs only, but also comes to expand the food basket in the African continent, through export plans to multiple African countries.
