Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf submitted a request to the Non-Aligned Movement, urging it to take a strong and firm stance on the Palestinian issue, especially in light of the ongoing “Israeli aggression.”
The minister pointed out that the Palestinian issue requires greater support from the Non-Aligned Movement, stressing that it can contribute to develop diplomatic pressure to stop the Israeli aggression in Gaza.
In his speech during a preparatory meeting for the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in the capital of Uganda, Kampala, Attaf expressed his country’s aspiration to take a firm position at the summit, noting the importance of supporting the rights of the Palestinians and the necessity of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Attaf also highlighted Algeria’s appreciation for Republic of South Africa’s initiative of filing a lawsuit against Israel before the International Court, considering this “a correct step in the right direction.”
On the other hand, Attaf praised Algeria’s appreciation for the Non-Aligned Movement’s steadfastness in supporting the rights of the Sahrawis in western part of the Sahara desert, and stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral international cooperation and reforming the United Nations.
Attaf expressed Algeria’s commitment to seriously achieving a new launch for the Non-Aligned Movement, noting the need to enhance cooperation and mutual respect to achieve just international security and stability.
